Max and I visited my in-laws in Northern Ireland recently, so for the past two weeks our dog Rua has been staying with my parents.
I have missed her SO much. With Graham being away, her presence and company has been especially missed.
I can’t dent though, life has been easier.
I’ve had more time without the daily walks, less guilt about ignoring her whilst working or playing with Max, more calm without the ‘zoomies’, more mental space without remembering the feeding and poop-clearing.
So yes, life has definitely been easier, but it most certainly hasn’t been as fun!
I’ve missed the daily walks, the sofa cuddles (#guilty) and watching Max throw the ball for her.
I’ve missed her enforced reminders that getting outside everyday is food for the soul and that play, even when your busy, is enlivening.
I’ve missed her crazy, stroppy, ‘velcro vizsla’ ways! (You only know it, when you know it!)
So Life, you can keep your “easy”, I’ll take harder yet fun ANY DAY!
Where might this apply to you?
Is there somewhere that life perhaps isn’t as easy as it could be, but you’ve forgotten how that challenge also brings so much fun? (If every parent out there isn’t nodding their head to this then I’m in awe!)
The same definitely applies to our crazy life in the Army.
It’s not easy living life the way we do; we move all the time, we spend a lot of time apart, and right now Graham is in Afghanistan and missing some amazing times with Max and family. The reality is though, those challenges also bring great value. The pursuit of personal goals and fulfilment is rarely easy but when you love what you do then so often it’s worth it.
Don’t get me wrong, the challenge repeatedly raises the question of “is it worth it?”, and I think that’s important, but doing that is often a great reminder of all the brilliance it also brings.
So where is your life not easy but definitely more fun because of it? I’d love to know!
Have a great week folks,
