Today is mine and Graham’s wedding anniversary.
I can’t quite believe that awesome, magical day was 7 years ago!
From start to finish it was full of fun and love… and booze… just the best day ever!
This year, we are celebrating from afar again - Graham in Afghanistan, me in France with friends. (You’re right, I win).
I don’t keep count of the number of missed birthdays and anniversaries, quite frankly it would be depressing, but I do keep up other traditions, even when flying solo.
A perfect example is this beautiful video from our brilliant photographer Elizabeth (Gracie May Photography).
EVERY anniversary morning, together or apart, I watch it… several times over. Without fail, it takes me straight back to all the fun, all the feelings, and all the reminders (I may or may not need at the time ;-) ) that I would do it all again in a heartbeat.
Even when flying solo, I choose to celebrate within myself - I make sure in someway I feel the day is special, whether that just be with kind words, special efforts or a solo toast, I try somehow to still mark the day.
Of course, G is missed. I miss him generally and today I really miss him.
I wish he were here.
But I can choose to wallow in that or choose a different way.
Army life is, in many ways, not easy.
But were it not for the Army, I would never have met Graham and the past 10 years most definitely wouldn’t have been as fun.
So instead of feeling sad in his absence, today I’m going to watch this video, revel in the love we share, memories of the adventures we’ve had, the infinitely special new additions we’ve welcomed and look forward to all that’s ahead for us.
Where you place your focus and draw your energy from is always a choice, and today I choose this.
Where will you choose to draw your energy and focus from today?
Happy anniversary darling Graham, I love you with everything and can't wait for the next 7 years and on.
