Sadly, due to horrendous weather in Louisiana, my speaking event today was postponed. This meant that suddenly, nearly all of my day's scheduled activities were cancelled.. uh oh...
Let the battle of my mind commence; My Lazy Bones versus my Driven, Focussed Diva!
LAZY BONES: "Look Georgie, your whole day is now free, it's wet and rainy outside and you're tired. You've been working really hard recently, so just take today to chill out. You deserve a really lazy day! DRIVEN, FOCUSSED DIVA: "Are you kidding me??? This day is a gift - suddenly you have LOADS of extra time you didn't think you had to do all things you need and want to do! Stop wasting time. Stay focussed. Snap to it!"
I'll admit that Lazy Bones' devious argument of, "You can always stretch and drink green juice whilst you watch back to back episodes of The House of Cards" was becoming pretty persuasive and alluring.
Then I got a message from a friend: (FYI - Piyo = a trademarked exercise programme.)
"Piyo butt....holy moly my legs can't walk. Haha I had to scoot on my bum to go down the stairs. Ha!!! Rewarding myself with a fresh papaya vanilla protein shake and jugs and jugs full of water."
BOOM - Butt officially kicked into action! Out of the way Lazy Bones, this Diva is ready to focus.
Inspiration, if we're open to it, will come at us in all sorts of shapes and sizes from many different avenues. My action and focus truly was inspired by this friend and so I felt I should let her know and say thank you.
"I just wanted to say thank you! Your messages this morning made me go and do an intense legs and butt workout when I was probably (was definitely planning on) just giving myself an easy ride today. Also, after hearing how much you were feeling your workout today, not only did I do the legs work out, I also upped my weights and pushed myself further. I realised it had been a long time that I was really sore post exercise. You made me realise it was time to up my game, always continue to challenge myself and grow. Thank you! Look at the ripple effect of your healthy choices and habits!!! "
Do you share you're health wins with anyone?
Who gives you a high five when you've gone the extra mile?
While doing these things for yourself is of course important, having others to share the journey with can be so powerful. Often we don't (out of fear of looking self-inflated or like a show-off), but choose who you share with wisely, share only from a place of kindness for self and for others and you'll be surprised by the ripple effect you have.
If you close yourself off to guidance and support from others and let your own ego or pride convince you that you're better on your own, often the breadth and depth of progress will be limited. Client, coach, parent, child, friend, relative - whatever the role, we can always learn from others and their support can be invaluable.
Expand your horizons by seeking inspiration and lessons from all areas, from all people, from all experiences. Seize the inspiration when it floats by and then thank your lucky stars for it coming along!
Have a great week all!
